Business Woman

Şafak Sol, the Aesthetician, who is one of the 15 most successful business women of Turkey:

I am one of those who is acquainted with the skin best in the world.

That’s why they call me “Golden hands”.

I desired to introduce Şafak Sol to our readers on September 9 in the newspaper. But already she is very-well known to all women and even men in Turkey.

Şafak Sol, the founder and the owner of the Epidermis Poliklinik, where all the problems with the skin are permanently resolved… She is one of the 15 most successful business women of Turkey. An expert to whom even dermatologists refer their patients.

One of those who is acquainted with the skin best in the world. They call her as “Golden hands”.

On this page, I can present only a part of our pleasant conversation with

Şafak Sol, which lasted about 4 hours.…

Can you talk about yourself, where were you born, where did you live?

I was born in Ağrı. I am a mother of two children aged 28 and 26.

My grandfather is Kesko Ağa, one of Atatürk’s friends, and I am his granddaughter.

My grandfather was engaged in salt trade and cattle breeding. When things got worse during the Depression, my father, who was a civil servant, asked for appointment and we settled in Çeşme when I was one year old. The building where we stayed in Çeşme and used the upper floor as a lodging for years is still intact and serves as a PTT branch.

It was in such a beautiful place, so that we could go out of the house and swim in the sea.

We were 4 brothers and 1 sister and I was the eldest of the siblings. When I was in the primary school age, my family made a decision. We were going to settle in İzmir.

We settled in Gültepe, where other families who settled in İzmir due to immigration mostly live. My mother worked in Alsancak Tekel Cigarette Factory. My father continued his duty at PTT. My mother retired from the Alsancak Tekel Factory and my father from the PTT, currently Telekom in Heykel. My mother always wanted to be a lawyer, but this dream never came true after she got married. My mother’s unfulfilled desire has always been a feeling that provoked me to realize my dream in life.

I WANTED TO BE AN ATHLETE

What job did you dream of in your youth?

I wanted to be an athlete ever since i could remember. But if it was up to my family, I should have been either a doctor or a nurse. I went to Tepecik SSI Hospital for a while, examined it, and saw the difficulties of being a doctor and realized that it was not for me.

I made a final decision, I did not want to be a doctor. This time they wanted me to be a civil servant. I solved only the questions about Atatürk in the civil service examination. I was very glad that I couldn’t win. Because I decided to get into business life early and become a successful business woman.

I opened a store in İzmir Mimar Kemalettin Street where I can engage with wholesale textile business. I was supplying goods daily to Kemeraltı shopkeepers. I was traveling a lot but I was very happy with my job. I had to quit because of an illness. I regretted it very much later, but I didn’t want to go back to the same job. Cases that seem disastrous in life can sometimes be miracles.

I was looking for a new job. I was dreaming of a job where people from every city could come to my workplace without hesitation and get service.

I went to a Course in İzmir

How did you choose to be an esthetician, what did you experience in this process?

Twenty-five years ago, my cousin recommended me to be an esthetician. The Ministry of National Education chose İzmir as a pilot zone in this regard and eleven people would be given aesthetic training course. I was also among these people. I started to participate in training in Buca school of tradesmen and craftsmen. I started to work on this subject without breathing, as hungry for learning. My favorite Russian writer Chekhov has a quote: Working saves us. I’ve always been very hardworking. I was also working on Sundays. Contrary to what was expected of me, I decided to open a beauty center instead of an aesthetic school. But before that, I did a lot of research on this sector in Switzerland, USA and Germany. I met a very experienced Turkish physician in Switzerland. He used very modern devices. I had been trained for three months by him and in the meantime researched the best devices that can be used in this industry. I named the center that I will establish, Epidermis. I preferred the color pink, which is a symbol of comfort and elegance, as the logo and I used double swans.

THEY WERE VERY ANNOYED.

First, I ordered a device called Dynaline from Switzerland. It took time to arrive by sea to Turkey.

It made muscles vibrate with electromagnetic currents, melts and weakens local fat. Until I opened Epidermis, the industry was under control of a certain monopoly. In fact Epidermis caused an earthquake in the sector.

I’ve been on TV channels. I told everyone about this, not commercial, but healthy and correct  tips.

I became known in Turkey.

I managed to enter Turkey’s most successful name between fifteen and I still am.

I have been doing this actively for 22 years.

We won the lawsuit filed against twelve similar companies imitating the name Epidermis.

They pay a fee to use the name

Epidermis. I asked myself a lot, “Where should I establish Epidermis?”

I chose this place to contribute to the development of both İzmir and Bostanlı.

I introduced Epidermis to all of İzmir in a short time. I have participated in all health fairs organized so far. I receive cooperation proposals from hospitals and doctors, whose names we hear frequently, they offer to open a hospital that only deals with these sectors, to be my management and its name to be Epidermis, I do not accept. We contributed efforts each other with Epidermis, we have priceless exertion on it.

WE ALSO TREAT PSORIASIS

What kind of treatments do you do in Epidermis Poliklinik?

People who cannot find a solution for capillary vessels, varicose veins types, laser epilation, moles, skin blemishes, skin rejuvenation, mesotherapy, hair mesotherapy, spots and scars, come to us.

Doctors and dermatologists refer patients they cannot treat, to me, I treat them here.

We deal with all patients with skin problems in Epidermis, men, women and children. We opened the first establishment of individual men and women serving in Turkey. Now I have patients from all over Turkey.

There are even those who reach me through mediators to make an appointment. The number of my male patients has increased considerably in the last 10 years. I can clean the moles without leaving any traces.

They leave stitch marks in such operations normally performed in hospitals.

I can remove freckles and moles without leaving a trace.

We also treat psoriasis in Epidermis. We have undertaken a difficult job and I am running it successfully.

For this reason, approximately thirty similar businesses are opened and closed in a short time within the region every year. I attended a meeting about this sector from İzmir Chamber of Commerce. There were 500 people and I was the only one among them who was not a physician. I always thought of my mother, I was actually an exception, and that was also making her dream come true.

What my MOTHER wanted became true

Epidermis has become well known all over

Turkey and most important brand in this sector. But I am not satisfied with this,

I am constantly on the lookout for research

and innovations, and I am happy to put on the “White Coat”

my mother dreamed of,

who most wanted me to be a doctor.

How do you spend your time outside of work, can you tell us?

My son Okan, who has

been managing Epidermis for a while,

is a physical therapist.

I’m just helping and continuing to care for my own patients. But now I have more time to devote to myself.

This is a profession and

I am a master at it. I give private lessons to convey what I know.

Because the high demand required this.

I spend more time with

my daughter Selin, who is an actress. I can travel more.

I even read my daughter’s theater books.

My biggest

hobby is to follow innovations.

My biggest

hobby is to reach out to

the new in every sector, trade, technology, art, and music, touch and beneft from it.

I have

seen this very useful.

Apart

from that, I really enjoy driving and playing transverse flute.

I like to devote a long time

to both. Because it creates a meditation effect on me.

I am also a good music listener.
